Katsuaki Fujiwara

Kawasaki Provec Motocard.com

Few riders have more WSS racing and winning experience than ‘Kats’ and few also have a machine quite as capable of winning the championship in 2010. Both Kats and his team expect great things from the 2010 season, as the popular Japanese rider goes all out for podium places.

Fujiwara has a race-winning record in World Supersport that few riders can match. Victorious in six, he has a total of 21 podiums, and has placed inside the top five in the championship standings four times.

After a season of racing development on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, and a winter spent testing and training hard, he is ready for another season in the top flight of 600cc racing.

His early career started, as it does for most Japanese competitors, in the mini-bike classes, but at the age of 16 he was allowed to obtain a professional licence, and soon won the prestigious 4-Hour Suzuka Race - a sort of mini Suzuka 8-Hour.

In 1995, by then a Kawasaki Superbike rider in the All-Japan series, he ended his season in the ZXR750R third overall, and also earned a podium in the Suzuka 8-Hour race, alongside legendary Kawasaki rider Akira Yanagawa.

His move to global racing coincided with the turn of the Millennium, and was made in the Superbike class, before Fujiwara initiated his successful shift to 600cc racing.

A career best of second in the championship came in 2002 and he is ready to get back to the upper echelons in partnership with Kawasaki and his new team-mate, Joan Lascorz.

Interested in fashion and photography, Fujiwara adds a dash of oriental flair to the European season, mixing Japanese sensibilities with cutting edge European couture.
