The tall blonde 22 year old from Colmar in the Alsace region of France, close to the German border, has already established a reputation as a hard worker with a friendly but serious attitude, and he did not have to think twice when he was offered the chance to join the Kawasaki Racing Team alongside close friend Sébastien Pourcel for 2010.
Although Xavier never won a national title at any stage of his youth career, he has always been at the forefront of the sport and gave a clear indication of his determination to reach the very top when he skipped the European Championship level of competition and went straight from the French Junior Championship to the GPs in 2006.
Encouraged throughout by his father Olivier, Xavier fought his way through an injury-wracked GP debut season and a privateer year with only limited assistance to earn himself a place on a German team the hard way, and in his two years there he advanced to be a podium man, only a bout of appendicitis which forced him to miss several GPs last summer preventing him from improving on a final world ranking of 10th.
It is typical of Xavier’s gutsy commitment to everything he does that he recorded his second podium on his return from illness at the Czech GP in August, and a few weeks later relinquished the opportunity to travel to the season-ending GP in the exotic climes of Brazil to race in front of his local fans at the MX3 finale in France, emphasising at the same time his ability on a 450cc machine by scoring his maiden GP win !
Although still young enough to have been able to remain one more year in the MX2 class, Xavier felt that the time was ripe for him to move to the major MX1 class and there has never been any doubt by either the rider or the Kawasaki Racing Team that a partnership promises great reward.
Already in his initial outings aboard the KX450F-SR Xavier has impressed KRT staff with his work ethic and intelligent feedback, and everyone in the team is convinced that he will make the step up from the 250cc class without any difficulties.
Xavier Boog: “It has always been my goal to be a factory MX1 rider in 2010, and I’m proud to be part of the Kawasaki assault in this class. I don’t have an aggressive riding style, so I feel more comfortable on a 450, and with KRT I have the best possible atmosphere to establish myself in the main class. My goal for my rookie season will be a top ten ranking in the series, but I also want to battle with the podium men in some motos. I’m sure I can get some good starts on my KX450F-SR and then give everything; that’s the best way to progress !”
